Underwater at the Snares

While I didn’t go underwater at the Snares, my GoPro did – tightly clenched in my fist. An underwater housing for my camera is big on the wish-list, but a student budget isn’t allowing for that just yet! So, inspired by the footage that Dave got on our previous adventure, I rolled up my sleeve and plunged my arm in, hanging a little over the side of the zodiac. The water was sharp, but not too cold. Snares Crested Penguins were rafting just beside us, ducking under and spiralling away into the crystal blue waters.

I took a bit of GoPro video – not a lot, because I had no idea what I would get, or whether I’d get anything decent. It was great uploading the files and seeing what was going on underwater! Being able to see down into the clear water is one thing, but actually getting underwater would be amazing. I’ve pulled out a few stills below where by chance there were some nice compositions. While it’s nothing on getting underwater with a proper camera and actually consciously making images, it was a lot of fun. Now I just need to do a few diving courses and get a proper underwater housing…
