Snooze

I wish I could nap like a bird, head tucked back and cozy between wing feathers. tākapu – Australasian gannets are probably my most-photographed bird, but every trip to Muriwai reveals some new aspect of their lives to witness. The glorious grace of their rocketing flight. The tender moments between pairs reuniting amidst a busy colony. Or just a quiet nap, practically underneath a viewing platform thronged with people. It amazes me how little the gannets mind this constant intrusion. I’m not sure I could nap with hundreds of people wandering past… It was a lovely moment to photograph the delicate feather textures, the softness, warmth.

  1. Edin, Just received a copy of your book for birthday. Brilliant it is…like the birds. THANK YOU. Just a wild idea…why not dream of another with YOUR text. You write so memorably, I love it. I’m thinking of a big book with the best of your pictures and just brief explanations of how you came to grt the shots. A la Peter Latham’s “Looking for the Light.” Check it out. Cheers.

    1. Thanks Brian! I’m currently working on my next book project, but it’s very early stages at the moment.
