Metallic Skin

I was fooling around with a self-portrait from last year, and quite by accident managed to create a rather terrifying version of myself. Here’s the original photo. It was done for an assignment at Elam last year which involved instructing another person on exactly how to photograph you. It was an interesting experience for someone who usually hides behind the lens!

And here’s the interesting version. It looks a bit like I’ve been doused in silver paint.

Messing around with curves is always fun. I find the best way to learn how to do things is to mess around and see what happens. The trick is to try and remember what you did to get to the result you like… Here’s a screenshot of how the curve looked:

I haven’t tried making metallic skin in photoshop before, so it was a really a happy accident. I haven’t tried it on other photos so more experimentation will be required to see if I can replicate the effect! And I did a gold version, just for kicks:

It’s getting a little unnerving with all these faces staring out of my blog. Come back next week for something less creepy!

  1. For some reason I find the silver version creepy but the gold version very cool. The silver seems to add more texture to your skin than the gold does. I like the faces. We don’t see enough of you, just what you’re seeing.
Im getting very good at messing around…and very good at thanking God for the reset button when i accidentally turned ALL the photos black and white… and a group of pigeons purple. (still don’t know how I did that).
