Otago wildlife

Here’s a quick selection of photos that I made during the New Zealand Photography Workshops wildlife masterclass. Teaching on this workshop reminded me why I love sharing wildlife experiences with people who are keen on observing and making images – there’s so much shared joy in these experiences, and coming away with great images really keeps those memories strong. After a field season of having to work hands-on with seabirds, it’s very relaxing to just sit back and watch them for the love of it. The Otago Peninsula is absolutely one of the best places in Aotearoa to photograph big, charismatic wildlife like rāpoka (NZ sealions), kekeno (NZ fur seals) and toroa (various albatross species). Plus with Orokonui Ecosanctuary, there’s ample opportunity for meeting great forest manu (birds) like kākā, and a few rather endangered takahē. I’m really looking forward to teaching this masterclass again next year.
